Worcester
17 - Orrell 0 Worcester
started the New Year with a valuable two points after a seventeen
point win over Orrell at Sixways. The conditions were far from
ideal, but Orrell were never really in the game and looked dangerous
with the ball in hand on few occasions. Worcester started the
scoring with a penalty from John
Liley after four minutes. Verbickas attempted to equalise for
Orrell six minutes later but the kick sailed wide of the posts and
Worcester were able to extend the lead with a second kick after 14
minutes. Liley missed two further kicks on goal, but Worcester were
able to go into the half-time with an eleven point lead thanks to
the only try of the match from centre Ali
McLaughlin. The second half was very similar, as both teams
made repeated errors and failed to keep the ball in hand. It was up
to John Liley to once again
restore order for Worcester as he slotted through two further
penalties to put Worcester clear.
